Solace in Wood are a new exhibitor to Baxters for this show. Having seen his work at one of the Craft Festivals, Baxters owner Sarah was fascinated by Karl's work and thought it would be wonderful shown in a feature exhibition in the gallery.

Artist Bio: Solace in Wood
Karl Watkins set up Solace in Wood in 2023. He designs and makes unique turned and carved wooden objects. He strives to embrace the inherent qualities of the wood by creating objects that not only showcase the natural beauty of the material but also celebrate the organic and unpredictable nature of the wood itself.
He particularly enjoys turning green (wet) timber almost paper-thin to encourage the pieces to twist and warp naturally as they dry to produce exciting and often unexpected results. He sometimes adds colour and texture by ebonising or dyeing and wire brushing.
Karl uses only ethically sourced and repurposed timber from local arborists, public parks, friends, family and neighbours.
