Collection: Anne Barrell

Anne Barrell is very inspired by all things to do with the sea and shipping and our British maritime heritage, as well as by modern British artists. The decoration technique of sgraffito is used with the image scratched into layers of colour on the clay.
There is a definite Alfred Wallis feel to the sgraffito pieces with merchant ships, sailing boats, fishing trawlers and all things to do with the sea and coast featured. Her pieces have hand painted boats and ships traversing stormy seas or sheltering in tree lined harbours. As each piece is handmade and painted they all have their own character.
Anne trained in New York and then at Chelsea College of Art & Design. She lives in Eastbourne and has been commissioned to sell at many prestigious galleries.
