Catherine Macleod's figures absolutely fascinate me, I love figurative sculpture and feel that by their positions and binoculars they involve themselves in a space. Positioning them at home will be great fun.
This piece is in the preview of our Coastline Exhibition. Many more pieces will be available online on May 28th at 9am. We will not be able to send this work to you until mid June as it needs to be on display in the show. Please contact us if this is a problem.
Media: Glazed crank clay
Dimensions: 32 x 13cm
Artist Bio: Catherine Macleod
Catherine complete a degree in ceramics at Camberwell College of Art in 1998 and then set up a studio with five others, at The Arches in Peckham, south London and began to make and show her work. She worked for many other artists during this time, learning new techniques and practices, among them, Oriel Harwood and Anthony Gormley. She also trained as an art teacher in 2002 and taught for 15 years alongside continuing with her own work. She is now a full time artist focused on her own career.
Catherine 's work celebrates the human form, but there is also a strong narrative about journey and looking for direction. The large feet of power and strength and the binoculars peering into the distance, looking, learning, questioning, focusing and searching. They are all hand build out of crank clay and fired high with stoneware glazes.
