Chas first began painting as a hobby 20 years ago, whilst working full time as an electrician. He painted in different mediums, from watercolours and gouache, before finally settling with bright, bold acrylic, and took inspiration from the works of David Hockney and John Piper. Finally, in 1994, he became a full-time artist and began working from home.
Chas is based in Lancashire where the people, architecture and landscape of Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding area inspire him. He is very successful locally with waiting lists for an original piece of work usually being 2-3 years. On a visit to Dartmouth in 2007 he fell in love with the area and approached Baxters to display his work - a successful exhibition followed in 2008 and the gradual addition of more limited edition prints and canvases over the next years. “They capture the places that we enjoy so much when visiting and some of the characters which make Dartmouth so special. I hope I have captured some of the spirit of Dartmouth & Dittisham.
